Outside of tank environment to relax my bp?
Hello!
Im new here, just got my first ball python with my roommate. So far things seem to be going well, I just had a few questions before I get to carried away...
One, we all listen to loud aggressive music in the house. Will things like music ambient, lighting, or smell affect the mood/temperament?
and if i were to make something out of PVC like (http://www.kingsnake.com/ballpythonguide/20gal.jpg) could I paint it with acyrlic paint? and if not could I paint it at all?
Thanks for your time!
If i can figure out how to attach a picture of my snake (Mucalinda) I will!

Snakes can't hear (or not very well at least) so music's not a problem. Bright lights on 24/7 could be an issue, as they're nocturnal, and you should try to avoid burning incense or using smelly spray, or other things that smell that you burn (sage, etc.). Snakes have a very primitive respiratory system, with really only one lung, so it's easy for them to get a respiratory infection.
As for the other question, I have no idea. /shrugs

Turn up the bass and crank the tunes, even if the snake can't hear it, good times

Thanks for the replys!!
glad to know we can still rock our tunes
no ideas on the paint?
In general are there chemicals that irritate their skin? (other than bleach and other more obvious chemicals)

Ay, I take it that applies to cigarettes as well?
Thanks!

Yeah. Also applies to cigarettes.

Heh, you know cigarette smoke is bad for humans too, right? It's better for everyone if you smoke outside, even if it is a total p.i.t.a. This from a person who thinks coffee and a cigarette in bed is the height of morning luxury, so I'm not judging. Don't take the snake out when using other substances, and don't let people take him out when you aren't there supervising to prevent problems due to the dumbass factor. (It seemed like a good idea...)
I know absolutely nothing about paint+snake dynamics, but back when I was in art school we never worried about acrylics and people- no fumes, no toxins, no skin irritation, no problem. I would make sure they were absolutely completely dry, just in case snakes are sensitive to any components. That takes about a week in a non-humid environment, even though they are dry to the touch right away. Another concern is that you are essentially putting a thin coat of plastic on plastic. Acrylics will peel, so check. I don't know what they will do on smooth PVC. I'd be worried the snake could rub it right off. They stick better on things with texture, so maybe hit it up with some coarse sandpaper first? I'd experiment.
I lived in a cinderblock construction loft back in the day, and my boyfriend's band practiced there 3-4 times a week. It never seemed to bother any of my snakes. They ate and did all their normal snake things without a problem. My ball was friendly and easy to handle, my red tail started out aggressive but seemed to get worse after the band stopped rehearsing there. I guarantee you can't crank your tunes louder or create more vibration than that. Just make sure it's good music! (A woman killed shot and killed her boyfriend recently because he wouldn't stop singing "thrift shop," who knows what a wild animal would do!)
Pandora's tank is right next to the tv in my room. I covered the glass because the flashing reflections seemed way too stressful, but that was me projecting- I didn't leave it long enough to see if it was actually a problem for the snake.
