"Going Rates" can be found in the For Sale section of this site, market.kingsnake.com, and faunaclassifieds.com. I would ask what the pairing was that produced her before going too far down the firefly road. A breeder should know the difference between a pastel and a super pastel.

What Do You Think of This Super Pastel

This is a picture of my super pastel, taken with my cell phone in bad lighting. See how blushed out his back and head are? It actually looks quite grey in person, rather than black.

I'd agree with others that the female looks like a firefly. She's very bright and clean, but I wouldn't pay that much for a single gene pastel.

I definitally agree that it's not a super pastel.... in fact that female looks identical to my regular pastel male....... so I know it's not a super.
Supers have ton of blushing and fading such as the one Chkadii posted. Regular pastels if high quality look a lot like fireflys.... and IF it's a high quality pastel, it should never be more than $150 for a AWESOME female (usually a proven breeder), unless the breeder is greedy (or dumb)
Either way, you're dealing with a sketchy person. Ametuer BP enthusiasts can always tell a Super Pastel from a regular Pastel... or super ANYTHING from the regular. This person is trying to market and sell to ignorant and excited people (or just has no clue about BP's and morphs at all, which may mean they aren't very quality with husbandry or so on), and I wouldn't buy anything from them if I were you.

but I'm just throwing out my pessimistic point of view.
If you have faith in this guy or gal, then good luck with your new purchase.

Not to get too off-topic, but are you saying you think a proven breeder pastel female is only worth $150?!

Thanks. The comparison helps me understand what everyone is saying.

The one I am considering is too young to be a breeder. I've been told that the one I am considering is the product of two pastels (which should make it a super pastel, right?).

You can still get just plain pastels from a pastel x pastel pairing.

    At the cheapest...
I've almost bought a female pastel proven breeder who was only 3 years old that was for sale for 175, but I was able to talk them down to 150,
the quality of the snake wasn't so great though, so I passed on the deal.

So unless my eyes and ears were decieving me, I know that the snake I was looking at was a Female Pastel who was a proven breeder for sale for $150. So yes, there can definitally be another situation like that for somebody else. Unless I was just that "lucky"

I just noticed that I mis-wrote my original post...

I meant to say that a high quality firefly should be 150. If it's an extremely awesome young female pastel it shouldn't be any more than 150.
If it's a proven breeder of low quality, the price shouldn't be more than 200 ever

Def. a reg. high quality pastel. Careful with this breeder, he should know the difference from a Super and a regular pastel. Unless hes trying to screw you, I'd be careful with this guy. $550 is QUITE steep to say the least.
