Not Cool, Fox News
http://foxnewsinsider.com/2013/04/13...0-foot-python/
The story and the comments are just sickening.
I hate how misinformed and hateful people are about reptiles. Even when you give them information with sources they just don't care.

Re: Not Cool, Fox News
Anywhere but, Florida I would have to support the cull of any non-native species. Any non-native species, even those that I personally really like.
Florida`s unique ecology is already pretty much written off with so many non-native species already released. In that location money would be more wisely spent on managing the problem and identifying what species are now at risk. Then establishing breeding programs and conservation areas suitable for those species.
Gardeners here have inadvertently tries to kill off thousands of waterfowl with run-away plants like purple loose-strife.

I don't disagree with that at all, my main issue with this is that so many people believe that burmese pythons are single-handedly responsible for the decline of the Florida ecosystem. They refuse to even consider addressing topics like feral cats, big sugar, or over development of the land.

Solution:
Lucifer Sam, Siam cat...
Always sitting by your side,
Always by your side...
That cat's something I can't explain...

They may not have done it singlehandedly but they contributed the most by far. Once they reach adult size only the biggest alligators are a threat to them. So they remain mostly unchecked.

Surely you can't believe that burmese pythons have contributed the most damage to the ecosystem.
Did you forget about the millions of feral cats running about?
I find it extremely hard to swallow that those snakes are causing anywhere close to the damage being done by cats

Not even possible, even when snakes breed most of the babies becone food for the wildlife they're apperantly destroying. Feral cats are the main source by far besides development

Since when has Faux News ever been cool?
I'm sure Florida has more golf holes then burmese pythons. Can you imagine the tons of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers that go into keeping those golf courses looking like outdoor carpeting?
