Infrared bulb

I need to boost my ambient temps a bit. I have read through 32 pages of threads under the husbandry forum I have seen some that say it is ok to use one of these bulbs and some say you should not. I was just looking for some opinions.

IR bulbs are fine, I have heard that balls are "tuned" to this spectrum but I have used them and never had any issues. I would just recommend having a backup bulb incase one goes out on you.

I use infrared on my balls and carpet with both displaying normal nocturnal activity.
The bulb really has to be screened in some manner if it is inside the habitat to prevent contact burns though.
I set mine up outside of the terrarium and raised them to get the local temps I needed.
I do check for hotspots being generated by bulbs or CHE's with a temp-gun just to verify that a rock or hide isn't going to burn any of my animals.

I have a 10 gallon terrarium and I use an exo terra 75 watt red lamp suspended on an adjustable exo terra lamp arm. I really recommend using the lamp stand because you can increase or decrease the temps as the seasons change. It works just like a lamp dimmer without the electronics. I seldom have to worry about hot spots, and I've only had one bulb burn out in 6 months.

I will have to figure out some type of screen. My enclosures are plexiglass with a wooden frame there is no way to suspend it above the tank. Any screen ideas ? I have seen the ones at the per store but the bottom is op is the any way they they could get near the bulb with one if those?

This is only the screen. You need to have or buy a 5.5 inch fixture for it.

One review said it does not fit the deep dome fixtures. But a deep dome would probably not work to well inside a cage anyway.

Thanks. I think I am going to wait until my second Uth and thermostat arrives. I worry the infrared will really dry the cage out. I was looking for a temporary fix I have not seen that screen in any store. It is going to be in the 60's the next few days here so that should hopefully bump up my temps.
