    Staring

Silly question, yes, but I'm honesty quite curious here.

I'm used to my snake staring at me. He actually does that quite often.
Recently, though, he's been doing something strange. Sometimes he'll start to emerge from his hide and stare intently. Over the course of a few minutes, he'll come out, flicking his tongue at me until he reaches the glass. If I made any sort of sudden movement, it seems to startle him, but otherwise he'll sit there and stare at me, flicking his tongue.

Now, he's a weird little guy sometimes, but he's fairly smart, so I'm wondering if this actually means something or if he's just doing something dumb again. (Between wedging himself in a paper towel roll and squirming into the crevasse between the glass and the hide, I've seen my share of strange behaviors.)
I'm somewhat new to the world of owning snakes, but I've read all the books and I've pestered all the veterans with questions!
I'm a veterinary med student and a Crazy Cat Lady in training.

-10 rescued stray cats (Midnight, Chewie, Blackie, Kiwi, Isis, Gronkle, Nymph, Smudge, Hobbes, Stix)
-Ball Python, 'Steve Rogers'(also known as 'Cap', 'Stevie', 'Stevorino' and occasionally 'my little twerp'.)
-Chinchillas! Male(Mr. Pokeylope) and Female(Linda), and two babies(Lilli and Razputin)

    Deceased
    Razputin-Diagnosis unknown, vets unsure.

He's poking his head out to see whats up and look for food and when he sees your body heat move he gets startled.

Really? I just fed him, though. He's at Lrg. mice right now, he can't and won't eat anymore than one a week.

I figured by now he's recognize me as 'bringer of food'...
