    Het Clown markers?

I keep reading that there are het clown "markers" out there. if there are, then why would there still be "possible" het clowns?
unless of course it's just being hidden by the other genes in said snake.
if it's not an industry secret, please let me/us know what they are.
if you can post pictures of these markers please, please do so.
    thank you very much.

    Re: Het Clown markers?

Sometimes the clown gene visually expresses itself in color and pattern.
Brighter and cleaner snakes compared to their regular non het counterparts for example. There are exceptions of course, but this is generally what some morph hets display.
And you can sometimes see the clown pattern breaking through. (In the dorsal or alien head patterns- for example, thicker dorsal striping in some or large key holes in the alien heads that clowns have in others.)

My pastel het clown is extremely bright and clean. Shes very yellow and not really browning out like my normal pastel. And they're roughly the same size.

There are people here who have great examples of hets that have that certain look or traits I'm talking about. A few people have posted their 66% normal het clowns and pastel het clowns with the ' look'. There is no doubt that those snakes will prove out to be 100%.

I wouldn't use this to declare that cleaner snakes with big key hole patterns are automatically het clown. But I would use it as a guide to choose from possible hets.

NERD has said on their facebook that het clowns look different and have a visual traits as well.

I'll try to find pictures later if I can.

    Re: Het Clown markers?

i guess it can work in order to recognize het clowns in a certain clutch, or when comparing siblings.

but if you, lets say, compare different pastels and pastel het clowns from different lines and breeders, i think it will be lost in the natural variety.

or if its a pairing involving a LOT of genes, it also probarbly wont work. if you get a clutch of 6 snakes that all look different because all have other morphs going on, and all of them also are 50% het clown, it will be hard to tell.

As far as the pos het clown question, either they haven't produced many and have no idea how to tell markers, or they kept back the fairly obvious "pos hets" and are selling the ones they don't think will prove out, or they have visuals and don't care whether a pos het will prove out or not.

When our yb het clown X het clown(s) eggs come I'll be posting pictures ...

I've only now just barely started a clown project. Not sure if I can link a facebook picture but here is a hypo 66% chance het clown male I'm breeding. Hoping to pick out some funky clownish patterned hypo and cinnamon hypo daughters to hold back. He is much more yellow than this pick shows:
