Almost Time
So I am only a couple of weeks away from my first ball python pairing. Does anyone have some last minute advice for a noob like myself? I believe I have read every thread on breeding over the last several months. Male is an 800g lesser, female a 2900g normal. My incubator is days away from completion. I have a few questions before I start.
My female has been on her winter feeding strike for a little over 2 months. Should this be a concern? At 2900g she is fat and happy as far as I'm concerned.
Exactly how do I got about introducing the male? Do I just toss him in and cross my fingers? Is there anything to this idea that I could put him in with some other males to get him "in the mood"
Once they are together is it OK for me to periodically slide the tub open to check for a lock or should I just leave them alone?
I have 5 kids and don't remember doing this much research before any of them were born.
Thanks - J

My first piece of advice is PATIENCE. This is a very very slow process, so don't expect to see anything right away
I wouldn't worry about the feeding strike. Most of my adults are off feed at the moment. Every once in a while they will take a meal, but I don't expect them to eat consistently until spring/summer.
Yep, just toss the male in. Some people remove the water bowl.
I always peek, I just try to be stealthy as to not disturb them.
Good luck!

Just out of curiosity what is the purpose of removing the water bowl? More room for activities?

Do u leave an open bottle of wine on the bed when your doing the deed?

Sometimes it gets a little intense, and messes are made... yeah.
