Is She Gravid?!
So we're along in our first season, and our big female Aurora has been locking with our boys since early November. We've had a number of long, successful locks and about a week ago she went into a shed about two weeks early and has stopped breeding our boys. She's been wrapping her water bowl and coiling in a perfect circle. She's also been laying inverted. She's been taking food on and off throughout the season, and I've tried feeling for follicles, but even though I've watched a number of videos on how to do it, I'm still not sure what I'm feeling for, and as far as I hear it can take a lot of practice. So what do you guys think? Could Aurora finally be gravid?

Your description of her behavior sounds promising. I would keep pairing and check on her daily for the ovulation. Once you see the ovy you can pretty much expect eggs in 45 days or so.

See, I'm worried I may have already missed the ovulation. We noticed her glowing a few weeks ago and she went pretty rock hard, but we may have missed the swelling. It's entirely possible. It only lasts for a day or so, correct?

If she has been locking since November I don't think it matters if you missed ovulation as far as pairing them is concerned, as they retain the sperm from the male. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this Best of luck! Sounds promising to me!

I'd bet by your description that the shed she just threw was her preov shed.
Is she looking lighter than before? if so that's the glow before they go(ovy).
