Heat packs and hand warmers? Backup power?

Yesterday I was close to ordering hand warmers as a backup in case the power went out. Power has never really gone out for me in such a long time that I didn't order anything, surely, something tripped the circuit and power went out later that day =-/, luckly power got restored pretty soon, but


Now I realize I have to be ready so I am considering the hand warmers and other options (I read some thread about hand warmers = death.. but seems this is true for shipping?).


I am also concerned for cases when I might not be home, so perhaps a small backup battery system would be in order.

They make special warmers for shipping reptiles that don't get as hot as human hand warmers, but I think it's basically the same design. They also last much longer. I think you can get them on ship your reptiles.

Hand warmers get too hot and burn out too fast. It can burn your snake.
Shipping heat packs don't burn as hot and last 24-72 hours depending on the type of pack.

Another alternative is boiling hot water and putting them in extra empty water bottles. It's good in a pinch.
