need to know if royal python ok

oc. Last night I went to bed checked my royal and everything was normal. I couldn't sleep so at 3:00am I thought I'd check him what I saw was that he was on the cold side but the hot sidewas reading 42oc. I soon found out he had completly unearthed his thermostat for yhe heat mat something he has never managed before. He couldn't have been like that for more the 4 ours. will he be ok???

Why is the thermostat in the enclosure? Pics of your setup would help.

What is 42 degrees Celsius in Fahrenheit? That's kinda hot, right?

    That's like 107 degrees....

As long as it was fixed right away, then he is probably okay...but how did it get that hot? The heat source should be regulated by a thermostat or at the very least some sort of dimmer.

It depends on if he was resting on the heating element when it spiked. Check his belly for signs of burns.

They are asking because they do not want it to happen again. Putting the thermostat pprobe inside of the enclosure is generally not advised because of this exact scenario. Most will advise to put it sandwiched between the heat source and the bottom of the enclosure (on the outside) to prevent dislodging/urination/false readings.

Please tell me you did not use tape to attach inside of you enclose?

The probe needs to be attached on the outside to the mat , as well as the heat mat needs to be on the outside, its a very serious mistake to have either of these on the inside

    thanks

No the the enclosure is purpose built with with glass sandwich where the heat mat is so its impossible for him to touch it. I checked him over as soon as I saw it but no burns, just a bit surprised I was up at 3 am I guess.
He's moving to a bigger vivurum soon anyway so this problem wont happen after the move.
Thank u for all help I'm just a big worrying softy
