All dinking is a gamble. They are side projects. Dinking is always a gamble. What is the difference between breeding a "normal" male to a female pastel and breeding a pastel male to a "normal" female? Absolutely nothing! It is silly to tell someone that it is a bigger gamble or a loss of profit to dink with a male. All DINKING is the same. It will be the same result either way you dink.

I meant no offense in my original post, or my last one. Trust me, I have plenty of "side projects". I just prefer to handle my operations and side projects in the most profitable manner. Think about it a little harder and maybe you will understand why it is more expensive to prove out a male. Regardless, I don't care how people dink with their balls . Whatever makes them happy.

It is more expensive to prove out a male........but if the male proves......you've got a way more expensive snake If you have a female dinker and SHE proves, you have to wait another year to breed her and she can only throw you one clutch (and you HOPE she throws you a good, viable, big clutch with good odds) but if your MALE proves, you breed that sucker to every lady in the house!

One pro to having a male dinker is you can breed him quicker! at 400g-500g he's ready to go! I have a couple female dinkers and it'll be another YEAR or TWO before they are ready to go *impatient*.

But the con to have a male dinker is that you have to use a female.....a female that could be used to produce a nice clutch from an already proven out male.

MY advice (for what it's worth) is to breed to a single gene or super female. (super female is of course the most expensive route, but then #1 you know you don't miss on the possible gene and #2 you don't blow the clutch)

No offense was taken, but your theory is flawed. It matters not if your dinker is a male or a female. By your logic it would be a waste either way. Whether your dinker is a male or a female you have to breed it to something. If you breed it to a normal then yes you may just get normals. If you breed it to a morph, then you will at least get something other than normals.

I agree, with all exept the "flawed logic" part. To prove out a gene, breeding to a normal yields much less confusing results.
