Don't get a zoo med rheostat, or any thermostat sold in a pet store, they are all overpriced junk. (Honestly you shouldn't go to a pet shop for advice, they very rarely have staffs that have even the faintest clue how to properly take care of reptiles)
Here are 3 good thermostats. I would recommend that you get the best one that you can afford as the thermostat is the only thing that will keep your BP from getting burned.
Budget: http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-MTPR.../dp/B000NZZG3S
Mid-Range: http://www.reptilebasics.com/ranco-etc-111000-pre-wired
Best: http://spyderrobotics.com/home/products.html
This thread explains the differences between them: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...t-Thermometers
I would recommend the herpstat 2 for your setup. The herpstat 2 will be able to independently control the flexwatt and radiant heat panel. (which MUST be regulated separately)

Re: help picking out a thermostat
Think about future plans. If you plan on keeping more animals in the future it may be beneficial to get a tstat that can run several devices. I have a Spyderobotics Herpstat 1 and 4. I love them both but the 4 blew me away with what it can do. They also have awesome service and ship them quick.
Snake keeping is addictive, everybody here can tell you that. Plan accordingly.

Re: help picking out a thermostat
thats exactly the responce i was looking for i do want to expand and get more tanks. and i dont want to get anything cheap that i am going to have to replace because in the long run im going to end up spending the same amount of money as if i would get a quality product.

Re: help picking out a thermostat
what would be the main difference between the ve200 and the herpstat thermostats
-
-
- Herpstats have more capabilities (can control humidifiers/misters, lighting, multiple heating modes)
- Have their night drop feature built in (instead of needing a separate module that costs $25)
- Are safer (Herpstats have software and hardware failsafes that make them the safest thermostat on the market)
- Herpstats use a better type of proportional control (dimming vs pulse)
The VE-Line of thermostats aren't bad thermostats, but they leave out a lot of functionality/safety for only being $25 cheaper (VE-200 vs Herpstat 1)

I use a Herpstat and VE-200. I haven't had any issues with them and so far, they're working out pretty well. The store suggested that I get this:
http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/...re-controller/
and I noticed that it does have a safety feature where it would shut off if it hits 110 degrees.
That makes me wonder, how high would the Herpstat go before shutting off?
