    Not eating.

I have a roughly 8 month old female Pastel that will not eat. I gave her a week to adjust to her new environment without me messing with her and then offered her a live weened rat. She struck at it twice, missing both times, and then wanted nothing else to do with it.

So I gave her a few more days and offered a f/t rat of the same size. She barely noticed it. Then I tried a large f/t mouse, thinking maybe she was picky and still stuck on mice. Nope, ignored that too. Then today, I offered her another live weened rat and she balled up whenever it came near her. I thumped it on the head and while it was just laying there (still alive) she went up to it but never did anything.

I have changed her environment from tank to tub, but with all the same hides/bedding. I thought maybe she'd feel better in a tub, but whenever I go to get her out she balls up real tight. After a little bit she loosens up but is very easily startled. She's my only trouble child out of my four babies. ]:

The temps and humidity are perfect in her tub, she just pooped like 5 days ago, and I'm probably worrying over nothing.. I just like it when my babies eat.

    So.. advice, suggestions?

Was she eating when you got her? How much does she weigh? Considering her age and the time of year, I'm inclined to suggest you just keep offering on your regular feeding days and she'll eat eventually. I also have BPs that won't eat the week they drop a big poo - guess they don't have room for both! Track her weight and don't start worrying until you notice a substantial loss.

I just contacted the breeder I got her from and he said she was eating live hopper mice before I got her. That seems like it would be too small for her, considering I have snakes that are smaller than her eating weened rats. He also said that the 28 qt tub I have her in might be too big and freaking her out.

I do not currently know her weight, I haven't been able to purchase a scale yet. Definitely at the top of my list now though!

Hopper mice? Seriously? I guess try that, and if it works, just up her size slightly at each feeding. This might even be a good opportunity to try rat pups and then increase size, since she's had some time to get hungry.

I offered her the rat again but this time I kept her in the cage. She nailed it after like 45 seconds. I guess she just really likes to stay at home. I'm glad not all of my snakes are as picky as her. Whatever, I'm just glad she's eating!

I also think the breeder must be confused one which snake he sold me lol. Mice are definitely too small for her.

Thanks for your help btw. [:

You didn't mention that you fed in a different tank. I'm sure the forum wouldhave told you to try feeding in its cage. Show the importance of giving all the details. I'm glad she ate. That can be frustrating.
