Yet another Mason anime review.
This anime is ongoing. New episodes are released every week. Available on Crunchyroll.
So this is basically SOA lite. Sort of. Maybe. Not really. But anyway....
The protagonist is Kon, a serious gamer. One night, he is playing a WoW knockoff when a pretty girl walks up to him and asks for his help outside of the game. Thinking he's about to score, he agrees and is transported to another world. Not the world of the game he was playing but another world altogether. A world based on a real game called Ixion Saga. He falls from the sky and lands on a bad guy and saving a princess and her party. So left with no alternative he joins them and their adventures begin.
Where SAO is all serious, DT is not. At all. It completely makes fun of manga, anime, and games all at once. The bad guys remind me of the Ginyu Force for DBZ. They are more comic relief that real villains. Instead of silly dance poses, all their initials stand for something else other than their names. Most also have some weird fetish. The main bad being Erecpyle Dukakis (ED). The first 2 episodes involve him in the funniest scenes and earning his alternative name.
Kon is called DT because he is a doutei (virgin) and ED misinterprets it as his name.
Kon travels around with a giant warrior man, a loli princess, and gun wielding trap. The best looking trap in anime. Even better than Jun from Happiness. And it's openly admitted right away, freaking Kon out. Eventually a talking flying squirrel joins the group. And no, that's no joke.
Most of the episodes involve Kon and his team out witting, running from, or just outright kicking ED and his groups butt. Kon has agreed to help them until he can find a way back home. Kon also discovers he ca nuse ALma, a form of energy in this world that very few can control. He attains a sword that uses Alma. When he activates it it turns into a giant hammer for some reason.
In recent episodes it is revealed that there are bigger bads than ED and his gang. Honestly, my foreshadowing senes tell me that eventually Kon and ED with team up to fight the bigger bads in the end. But we'll have to wait and see.
Watch at least the first 2 episodes. Some of the funniest scenes in anime there. Definitely worth a watch.
