Re: how often do you clean?

Every time they poop/pee/etc. the newspaper gets changed and the tub/hides/water bowls are wiped down with F10. Then, at least once a month I take out tubs, scrub, and disinfect with F10 before putting in newspaper and then the snake. Also, water bowls get refilled/washed out every couple of days and once a week they get washed in the dishwasher.

In my collection there is no such thing as spot cleaning.
Cleaning can be twice weekly or once weekly but it usually weekly at least.
I agree with jerry. I use newspapers and feed twice a week. so thats a lot of cleaning!!!

I spot clean as needed and full clean once a month.

To me a full clean means spotless and completely disinfected this is time consuming it is unlikely that it can be done quickly, at the fastest 15 min and likely longer (my rack takes me 4 hours to completely clean and disinfect.)

It appears that many have not read or follow the instructions on the disinfectant they choose, all I know of require the surfaces to be throughly washed scrubbed and rinsed before use of disinfectant then the surfaces must be saturated and kept saturated for the correct contact time.

Take the time to read and then follow the instructions. The only way to know if a disinfectant is to either follow the instructions or do cultures to insure you are making a significant reduction.

Whoops. I answered the poll incorrectly by accident.

Anyway, I clean a few times a week. Basically I clean whenever a snake defecates or urinates. All snakes are on paper substrate.

Even if you aren't reading the instructions, isn't it still better to use it than not at all? At least you're getting SOME of the little buggers. Some is better than none in my opinion.

Same could be said about people's hands. Some people either don't wash their hands or only use alcohol-based sanitizers. Really, you should be washing your hands for at least 10-20 seconds in hot water with firm friction and THEN use hand sanitizer on top...but really, at least washing with soap in cold water is better than not at all. Alright. Getting off my soapbox now.

I keep my BP's in tubs on paper with ceramic water bowls.

As soon as they mess they get a clean tub with fresh paper. I check on the snakes 3 times a day.

Once a week I put the bowls in the dishwasher.

It can be done very quickly if you already have clean tubs and bowls ready to go!!!

All of my dirty tubs get dry wiped...Rinsed with scolding hot water...Wiped again...Then sprayed with F10...They sit an appropriate amount of time with disinfectant and then get rinsed in hot water again...Then set out to air dry...

but i try to clean the tubs and everything every week in somes cases i need to clean them 2-3 times a week. specially if someone sheds or manages to get the papertowels in the water bowl lol. it then wicks all the water out of the bowl and all over the tub bottom.

Exactly! Also as long as you don't see any germs it's clearly disinfected. I've definitely never seen any germs in my tubs so I know they're very clean.

If the disinfectant is neutralized by organic matter (CHD, CHG, bleach mixes, alcohols, peroxides, and F10 are) on contact no. It might as well be water why waste your money doing nothing at all?

Incorrect use of disinfectants makes 'super germs' bacteria resistant to disinfectants much the same as misuse of misuse of antibiotics. It does more harm than good.

Duplicate tubs are faster by a few min but they still need to be rinsed, scrubbed with soap or detergent (F10scxd) rinsed again, they saturated with disinfectant and re saturated on the vertical surfaces making sure everything is soaked for the full contact times (10-30-min depending of the disinfectant) I also do the top surface of the rack too.

I thought I was going seriously fast to get the tub inside and out done and the top rack surface cleaned rinsed and disinfected in 15 min or so.
