So I am looking into starting to enlarge my python collection in the coming months. Wondering if anyone can point me to a good guide on QT reqs and recommendations....

What I do is I house the new snake as far away from my established collection as possible and only deal with new snakes or my established snake on a single day. I have separate feeding tongs etc. for new snakes. Basically you want to minimize any and all contact between new snakes and established snakes.

My quarantine period is a minimum of 90 days. If I even suspect anything is wrong the 90 period is reset.

I was thinking of using a used glove box from a science lab of some sort or building one myself with a negative air pressure system....planning on using a small computer fan to draw in air and a pvc type outgoing pipe system to pipe the air outdoors ....it would basically be air tight and sealed with silicone caulk....was gonna building it big enough to house 4 10 gallon tanks or a smaller # of larger ones.

I have read ppl talking about QT being 30-90 days...i was thinking 45-60 days?

is a vet pre check up necessary or can i get away without one if everything goes ok with QT?

I think that whole air tight thing is too much...

The 90 day quarrantine with reptiles is appropriate due to their slow metabolisms. I'm not sure if negative pressure air flow is necessary, though. Most importantly, Keep the qt area in a seperate room with seperate bowls, utensils, etc...no cross contamination between the qt room and the room your established collection resides in...and lots of Purell.

i was planning on doing the negative air pressure because of my living situation and not being able to place new animals in a separate room from the already established connection.

its my understanding that we dont know modes of transmission for IBD...and paramyxovirus may be airborne...hence my reasoning for negative air pressure....
