Damaged flexwatt.... Rack down and snakes without heat.

Last week I had a small portion of flexwatt burn out on the bottom shelf of my RB rack. Thankfully I was able to remove the damaged portion, move my snake into an empty tub, and still have a functioning unit. This evening I discovered another portion has burned out (shelf number two), this time resulting in a 2" hole being burnt into the bottom of the tub itself. Thankfully the snake was not burned and seems to be doing OK. Unfortunately, this time I cannot simply remove the damaged portion and still maintain heat to the remainder of the unit. And, to not risk any further damage, I shut the power off to this specific rack.

Will my snakes be OK without a direct heat source for a few days? The ambient room temp is currently 71 degrees.

I would bump up the ambient temperature to at least 80 degrees.

What kind of thermostat were you using?
I'm glad your snakes are safe.
Try to keep the ambient temp 80-85.

You will need to raise the room temp.

Check the whole strip of flex a watt for rub marks or any other damage.

Yes they will be fine so long your ambient temp is adequate, for that you will need a heater in your room allowing you to maintain temps of about 80 degrees.

As for the heat tape issue it could be due to a tear in the tape which can occur if your heat is not recessed, it could also have happen if the connection came lose, and it could also have also occur because a a t-stat failure.
