Been there except they took y monitor an it was in her cage and the neighbors had seen it. Then I had to go to the local animal shelter and explain that it is a legal non lethal lizard. When I saw her she ran up to me and begge for pets. We flipped off the officer and drive away. It was a pain in the butt. I'm glad it caused no problems for you!

Pretty awesome story but I'd be a bit more careful with her, the next officer might not be so curious and understanding.

Glad it ended up OK. Could have resulted in much more serious consequences, including your animal being injured or killed. Looks great on the rest of the reptile community too, having a large reptile wandering around unattended So yes.. happy your tegu is safe and sound... not so happy with the story in general.

    life happens

In Az in general all the Animal control agents call the Herp society whenever there is a reptile involved. They all want and are eager for knowledge. They were very kind and thankful for the education and a few are going to the reptile show in two weeks to learn more. There will always be someone on a board or in a crowd to point out the negative. I try to always look at the positive. The attention gained from negativity is just that!

But surely you can't be upset with someone for not liking the fact that one of your animals got out and ended up "scaring the neighbors," right? I, too, don't see the humor in this story. I am glad that you got her back and that you got to educate some folks, but what if the scared neighbors are now even more turned off than they were before to reptiles? Maybe instead of not voting on a ban in the future they will vote to support a ban now. I hope that in the future you take the necessary precautions to keep this from happening again.

So no response? I'm curious as to what you might have to say in response to my post.
