Axanthic Question

Hey guys, I have some questions about axanthics. I have seen a huge variance in the snakes and was curious if there is anyway to judge at a young age. I have seen some axanthics that they are clearly gray, black, and white... others have a muddy gray look that too me is not all that different from a normal. What line is best for the clear gray, black, and white? Also how do you judge young which adults are going to remain that true shade and not turn ashy brown?

There are good examples and bad examples from all of the lines, but I think in general the VPI line is considered the best. As for what to look for, I think your best bet is to see if you can get some pictures of the parents.

I agree with the above. I highly recommend the VPI line of Axanthics if you decide to get into this line of simple recessives.

Love me some VPIs but I haven't seen a lot of any one of the lines in person. I second Gail's recommendation of getting a look at the parents of your snake before buying, however I am not sure if the parent will dictate how the offspring will brown out.

I have heard many people say the parent doesn't influence in certain genes. For example a low white pied or calico can throw high white babies. I really want to focus on a snake that remains gray, black, and white... that doesn't brown out. My husband says they remind him of news print.

I'd say your best bet would be to buy one that's over 300-500 grams or so, that way you can see if it's starting to brown out.
