For those that use Aspen, what kind do you use?

So for the people that use Aspen in their tubs, do you only use the shredded snake aspen or do you use the regular aspen chips that you can buy at the feed store that are used for rats and stuff? I have my Balls on newpaper, but I don't like it and want to switch to aspen. But I am unsure if using the same stuff that I use for my rat colonies is ok. And if you use the regular aspen do you feed your snakes in the tub with the aspen or remove the snake to feed it? Thanks

I used to use aspen and it was shredded. I am now on newspaper because aspen has its own set of problems. You can feed a snake directly on aspen no problem though. Hope that helps. I don't breed rats so couldn't say whether that's fine. i would assume so, but not sure on that

I really like the aspen sanichips, they have the least dust. The shredded reptile stuff is nice too but does have some dust in it. The only issue with the non-reptile aspen is that many times the dust content is very high which can be really messy.

All 3 types are safe to use.

I used to aspen for my snakes. But it was just easier to use newspaper now. Plus I got bundles of it for free.

Snake aspen is the same as rodent aspen. It may be a little less dustier and a different shape, but its the same stuff.

When I used aspen for snakes, I used Native Earth Shredded Aspen. Their sanichips are good to use too.

I fed live on the aspen. A little ingested substrate isn't going to harm your snake.
