What do you sell your rats for?

So I just got a breeding pair of blue dumbos and gonna build a rack so I can have a few pairs making babies. Gonna get a couple normal hooded males and hold back a couple of the females I get from my starter group. So question is what do you all sell your feeders for? And since ill have the genes available to make more dumbos and blues would it be smart to also sell the prettier ones as pets?? Not really in this to make money a lil to off set the cost would be nice but all in all it's just another hobby to help me get some feeders and to help other herp lovers in my area get access to rats with out dealing with petco and their bs of only buying five large rats a week.

The two that started off my new hobby 😀 female is the darker one.

Ill end up getting a couple males like this guy also. I can't decide if I wanna keep him or not, I have him because of a refusal to eat and I hurt his tail when I pulled him outta the snake tub, since then he's chewed off the last inch
an a half of his tail so I'm guessing that part of it was dead cuz of me 😞 but it doesn't seem infected and he seems to be fine now cept now I'm arguing with my self about keeping him or trying to feed him off tomorrow. Sorry for long post I tend to ramble at times lol

I wouldn't get too hopeful about the blues. When I bred my own rats, I found that the blues were not good breeders. Females often died giving birth. There seems to be something weak about them.

It was a shame too, because I love blues. I eventually stopped using them.

Those two are more or less the starter two till I get the rack, an mainly breeding for feeders. Just was wondering a fare price where I'm not ripping anyone off yet I'm not giving away. Idk might not be making sense just got off a long night at work thinking isn't my strong point at the moment

I've got a female blue rat that is the best breeder in my bunch. Her daughters are awesome producers too, even the blue ones.

I have had bad luck with the fawn solid ones. The fawn hoodeds have been great for me, though.

    I do

    $0.65 for crawler rats
    $1.00 for rat pups
    $1.15 for small rats
    $1.55 for medium rat

It's not a business for me I only sell to one person to help out, I don't have the room, time or interest to breed for more than myself and another person.

There is a feeder store within 20 miles of me (only selling feeders and a few reptiles) who charges as followed

    Pinkie $2.00 - Fuzzy $2.50 - Pups $3.00 - Weanlings $3.25 - Small $3.50 - Medium $4.00 - Large $6.00 - Jumbo $7.00

That should give you a range

Re: What do you sell your rats for?

    I sell mine at:

    Pinks: $1.00
    Fuzzies" $1.50
    Pups: $1.75
    Weaned: $2.00
    Small: $2.50
    Medium: $3.00

I sell aroud 150 rats a month and never have a problem getting rid of them. Just make sure not to sell too many so you have a good supply for your own snake collection.
Selling the extra rats completely covers the cost for food, bedding, electricity and I still make a small profit in the end. Its also a great way to make some good connections with local herpers.

I don't sell my rats as feeders. I don't harem breed. I selectively breed my rats and manually pair up certain males with certain females. I feed off what I need and sell the rest as pets. I have mainly blues and high white rats(not dominant). I've never had breeding or birthing problems with the Blues.

Pups leave to their new homes once they're weaned.

    $5 - standard top eared
    $10 - dumbo eared
    $10 - rex coated
    $15 - dumbo rex

When I sold pet rats I sold 2 for $15 and supplemented most of if not all of the rat breeding program.
I have bred and produced thousands of blues from blues, Siamese and black rats and never had much problem with them genetically or any other way.
Most of our rats are dumbo eared in blue, Siamese, black, agouti, blue agouti and other colors

Thank you everyone I know bout what ill do now, like I say it's not about making money just little to add on to help out. I know three other people so far I can sell too and I'm gonna place an ad on Craigslist offering feeders and when I got pet ones to sell ill place an add for them. Don't wanna get too big but hoping for a good group going and just having fun with it
