Instruction Sexing babies
My daughter has six baby BP's that hatched the end of August. With Atlanta Repticon coming up next weekend, it would be nice to know the gender of them in case we can arrange for any purchases prior to the show. There are 3 YBs and 3 Classics. I always see the veterans saying make sure that someone shows you how to properly do it before attempting yourself. Since neither of us know how to pop or probe, I was wondering if there is anyone in the Gwinnett County or Hall County area that could take a few minutes to show me and my daughter how to do this and confirm the gender at the same time? We live near the Duluth/Suwanee area in northern Gwinnett Co. As long as its age appropriate, I am happy to bring some beverage of your chosing with me for your trouble. PM me if you can help. Thanks in advance.

Re: Instruction Sexing babies
I would definitely go to YouTube and check out my good friend Justin Kobylka's video on popping and sexing with a probe. He does a very good and thorough job. While there check out some of his other videos. He has been a large part of S.I.R. 's succuess! BTW, he is in north east Georgia.

I would like to second that. That's how I learned how to pop to determine sex. Very good instructional.

Re: Instruction Sexing babies
Thank you for your quick responses. I would prefer to learn face to face and with hands on instruction, just for my own piece of mind and the safety of the baby. I have made arrangements to be shown first hand by a member of the BP.net community. This really is a great resource and a very helpful community.

The video is helpful for sure. You have to be careful tho, because you can injur the hatchlings if you arent careful. Contact your local reptile store and see if they will show you how to do it. It definitely helped me when I first learned how to sex to see it in person and have someone monitor that I was doing it correctly...

Deborah and I will be at the show. If you want to bring them, one or both of us could show you.
I'll probably be wearing a blue or black BP.net staff shirt.
Just bag them and then carry them in a small backpack.

Thanks Robyn for the offer. We already met up with another BP.net member from your area yesterday and she showed us how to pop the babies and probe an adult. We ended up male heavy at 2.1 YBs and 2.1 Classics, but thats how it goes. I'll see if I can get my daughter to post pics later today but one of the YB boys is a stunner. We will be up at Repticon so I will keep an eye out for you. Look forward to meeting you.
On a side note, do you find it as frustrating as me that the revised Vendor list hasn't been posted yet and the show is only a week away. Maddening!

Is it safe to "pop" larger snakes? About the 4 1/2, 5 foot range or is it only good to probe them?

You can be successful popping larger snakes. My 1000+g male was quite easy to pop, although with larger snakes probing is usually easier.
