Hog Island Boa vs. Hogg Island Boa

I know they are Hog not Hogg but where did the double G come from and why do I see it so many places?

When I bought my HIB oh about 15 years ago it was sold to me as Hogg Island not Hog. She was my first boa and I didn't know much at all about boas so I never questioned it.

I know for sure that the proper name for the HIB is Hog Island Boa. This name stems from the main island that they are found on off the coast of Honduras called Cayos de los Cochinos which literally translate to island of the hogs. I believe that the extra 'g' was added on by someone as a typo and has stuck around. It could also have been added to help sell hog island boas that have been crossed with other types of boas resulting in impure HIB blood. Just a theory though, I have read a more indepth explanation for this somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

Im sure when they were first imported there could have been a mixup in the translation of the name of the island. Maybe an american didnt like "Hog" or thought "Hogg" would sound better. Or maybe when a foreigner translated it they thought it was spelled Hogg not hog. Idk for sure though, kinda just a thought.

Ditto. Someone said the spelling Hogg was meaning a "hybrid" (Hypo X Hog) , but I have never seen that being the case and always see the "hybrid" called a Sunset.
