    Setup and moving

Right now I have everyone in separate tanks, and at the rate I'm going that's starting to take up a lot of room. I want to get a stacking cage system (hubby says if we have snakes he wants to see them during the few seconds a day they wander out of the hides, so no plastic tub racks). The problem is that we live in Phoenix now, but we're moving to New Mexico in the spring (I got a new job). How easy is it to move a big stack of cages? Should I wait until after the move to get them?

It depends on how the cages are made. I use animal plastics cages which can be disassembled if they need to be moved. This means that a 6 foot tall by 4 foot wide by 2 foot deep stack of cages can be reduced to a 15 inch tall by 4 foot wide by 2 foot deep stack of cage parts. Other brands like Boaphile cannot be disassembled so they can be difficult to move.

Your going to have to move one style of tank or the other. I would think the pvc would take a truck ride better than a glass tank and depending on the size tanks you have now the pvc stand a good chance of weighing less.

    Re: Setup and moving

Thanks for the quick replies. I've been looking at both Boaphile and AP and I'm still on the fence. Does anyone know if they can be used as individual units? I'm thinking if I could unstack them I could get them into my car (xterra with rear seats that fold flat) to make the drive, then restack at the other end. I expect our household items will be with the movers/in storage for a while until we find a house, so I don't want to deprive the snakes of their homes while we hunt for ours.

Thanks for that link, it's answering a lot of questions I didn't know I had yet!

By individual units, do you mean single cages?

    like so:

If so, yes they are all independent from each other in every way (unlike a rack)

I would suggest AP over boaphile. Boaphile has terrible customer service, and their cages aren't made as well as AP cages are (AP cages are made from plastic that is twice as thick as boaphiles are. Plus if you order a T8 from AP (the cage I would recommend for BP's and most snakes of similar size you will get your cage in about 10 days vs 6-8 weeks for the boaphile.

Yes, single cages, but stacked on top of each other like you'd see in a store. That's really good to know about the wait times, I'm not what you'd call a "patient" person, so that kind of wait would drive me nuts.

Well you buy the cages individually, then stack them. if you need to you can always unstack them.

I'm not sure how boaphile cages stack, but AP cages have pins that keep them from moving/falling if they are bumped accidentally.
