    Question Screen Top Woes

I hope you get the idea of what I'm going to be asking here.

I have a 55 gallon aquarium almost ready for my Taiwanese Blue Beauty, Nessie, to move into with one big problem... My screen top overlaps too much on the front and back so that clips will not stay on (I'd say about an inch total). So I have a screen top that I can't secure which means Nessie can't go into her new cage until I find a solution. I thought about making my own but I'm not sure how I'd secure that since if even a single corner is not clipped down she can get out (has only happened once but would prefer for it not to happen again.)

So is there possibly a way to make the screen top I have work? Or should I look into making one?

Is the tank irregular in shape or is it just the screen top itself? Because if it's just the screen topper, I'd probably return the one I have and buy a different one. If the tank has unusual dimensions, you'd probably be stuck fashioning one yourself which you may be able to do with some plastic framing and wire mesh.

I'll need to measure the tank, we've had it for years so I'm not sure if it has weird dimensions. The screen top is made for 55's so I don't think any others would work.

Tanks can be a pain when trying to get a fitting top. They come in different dimensions that equal the same gallon size. What I mean is you can have a 20 gallon tank or a 20 gallon long tank. Both hold 20 gallons but the dimensions will be different.

I would measure yours and see if you can find or order the proper top. If not I would try to sell it or trade it for a proper reptile tank.

You could always set something heavy on top of the lid to prevent her from getting out

I've had bad luck with setting something heavy on top. I would get some straps and loop them around the take. They are really cheap, you can get them in the luggage isle at walmart.
