    Scale rot or something else?!?!?!?

Ok so my newest ball has about 3 brown scales on his (or her) belly, it's in a terrarium with my older female which appears to be fine other than the sudden accurance of mites -. - not sure if they came from the newer snake or possibly the substrate? Repti bark. I acquired the ball from pets mart. Not a smart idea on my part but it was 40 bucks and looked healthy and mite free until I got back from my vacation. The snakes were fine and the little one has developed those brownish scales in the past few days. There rough not smooth like my other snake. Do I isolate the snake and put it on paper towel substrate? And treat for scale rot or what I'm not sure what to do or what is wrong. I'm going to start my mite cleaning tomorrow and putting down newspaper or paper towels until the mites are gone. Do I use mite off or something else for them? Sorry for all the questions I'm just very concerned about my snakes. The temp is 75ish and humidity is 50-60. Also how do I attach an image do I have to upload to like photo bucket and paste the link?

    1. Is your heat regulated by a thermostat?
    2. Did you quarantine the snake before adding it into a tank with your other snake?
    3. Upload to photo bucket and use the [IMG] code.

The temp is 75 all over or one side is hotter than the other? Your humidity is good. Like the person above me said upload your pics to photobucket and then copy the IMG code for the photo and paste it here in a reply. What are you using to check temps also?

this one is a little better but the picture makes it look more yellow than it is and the snake appears to have a scratch on its belly could something in the tank have caused the problems? also the whole tank is 75ish my humidity was really high for a couple of days about a week ago but it's back down to normal and no it wasn't isolated before but it's been in the tank with my other bp for about a month.

Have you read the caresheet here? If not, you should.

Housing your snakes together is a bad idea, especially when one is much larger than the other.

I hope you have a under tank heater (uth) on a thermostat to create a 90-95 hotspot. If not get one ASAP.

75 is a bit cold especially if you do not have a hotspot. I don't know what kind of tank you have but it sounds like you could use a heat lamp to boost the tank to 80. If you don't have a uth you could just add a heat lamp and get both your hotspot and good ambient temp.

Make sure to check your surface temps with a good thermometer, I recommend a temp gun.

As for the mites. Remove the substrate, wash the tanks, treat and separate the snakes, and using paper towels or newspaper would be a good choice till the mites are gone.

    IMPORTANT
IF YOU DO HAVE A UTH BUT NO THERMOSTAT AND PUT A PAPER DOWN YOU WILL BE THEN DEALING WITH BURNED SNAKES.

As for the pics I couldn't see anything clear enough to tell you my opinion. Take some clearer pics and try again.

You should quarantine a new snake for 4 to 6 months and some on here do a full year.

Re: Scale rot or something else?!?!?!?

Update: (larger female, about a year old) I do have a uth and also a heat lamp on the opposite of the water dish which is a small shallow bowl (while I'm soaking and mite of fingers dish) and I have newspaper as a substrate while I'm exterminating mites. And 2 hides one on each end. Temp on hot side is 80 and slowly going up. Cooler side is 75ish humidity is well not sure because the gauge got wet and reads 120. I cleaned the entire tank with soap and water dried it and sprayed mite off everywhere. Sprayed a little on the snake avoiding the head. There are only a few visible mites.

(smaller snake, couple months old) I have in a separate 10 gallon tank with newspaper substrate and I did the same cleaning process that tank the temps are almost the same in the small tank as the large. I sprayed mite off on it also it has mites around its eyes. I'm not sure what to do about that though? And the 3 brown scales on his belly it looks like it was snagged on something and his belly scales are a little rough not as smooth as the larger snake. I've tried to feed him f/t but no luck I'm going to try live tomorrow and was wanting to know if I should put some reptile vitamins or calcium on the mice? Idk I though it would help with the healing.

What are you using to monitor temperatures?

You've been dodging whether you have a thermostat or not. Is your heat regulated?

Re: Scale rot or something else?!?!?!?

Yeah I have 3 one tape one in the cool end and one tape and a guage on the hot end I do not have anything to regulate heat on the uth but it's an old one that doesn't stick on and doesn't get very hot and my heat lamp i turn on and off. I have a light dimmer on the way and a new ut on the way. But my other snake was in the same tank and she is fine.

So Wait no I don't have anything to regulate the temperature :/ my bad I ordered stuff today but the temperature stays around 78ish I know it's a little low but I had them in a different room and the temperature spiked to 105ish so I put them in another room but it's harder to keep the temperature up over 75-80.

I have 2 lamps 1 is on the way
old uth new bigger one on the way
    3 thermometers and a hydrometer
a dimmer control on the wway
    2 hides
    water ddish
    Reptibark

is there anything I need or anything I need to change I'm probably going to get rid of the reptibark
