Average Size of Males
.... I'll clarify, so there aren't any misunderstandings with my topic title! Haha.
My boyfriend and I are picking up our first Ball Python after our vacation in a couple of weeks. For the past year my boyfriend has been supportive, but disinterested, in reptiles. That was, until I convinced him to let me get a Ball Python ("And that's the last one, right?" he says...) Well, he confided in me the other day that he was really excited for the Ball Python, and admitted he was only uncomfortable with my other reptiles because he's a snake guy, and I'm a gecko girl. So it all makes sense.
But, he has been intimidated slightly with the concept of how big the Ball Python might get. Size in grams just doesn't give him a visual, I suppose.
If you guys have a moment, could you possibly post some photos of your Male ball pythons with some size reference? Even just someone holding him, or near objects that give it some scale? I really want to show him so that he can understand exactly what I mean when I tell him that this python won't get as big as some females he's seen. And that way I can show him the translation between grams and size (roughly)
Right now he's at work, but I plan to show him this thread if there are some responses.
And to avoid further jokes on the topic... I'll just phrase it like this:
If you have a moment, would you be so kind as to post some pictures of your adult male snakes?

That's like asking how big my kids are compared to someone else's.
I have adult males that are 1100 grams and adult male that is 2000+ grams.
They come in all sizes

wish i could help but i dont have any adult males, both my males are under 500 grams. if you want i can post a picture of my female albino that is 700 grams and you can just tell him its an adult male lol. Pictures/descriptions do nothing for me, when i got my JCP my gf asked how big it was going to get so i told her 4-7 feet and she flipped. "7 feet thats bigger than the both of us blah blah..)"now she sees my JCP curled up and thinks she not that big, mean while we measured her and she was over 5 feet a few weeks ago. so pictures do nothing for me i have to see an animal in person to to understand the actual size of it.

Re: Average Size of Males
He isn't mine anymore, but here is an adult male I rescued, somewhere in the 2200g range, if I remember correctly.

That is exactly my point I'm not asking what size my Ball Python will get. That's not a concern, haha. He's staying with us, even if he ends up as a big boy. But his sire is a very managable size and his dam is also reasonable (but obviously bigger). I'm just looking for some photos of snakes in a variety of ranges, so that I can help dispell some of the worry. I mean, you see some of those huge females around and they look like mini boas, haha.
So just because an animal looks or sounds big (grams), doesn't mean it's going to be unmanagable.

Lol at the title....
So, he just ate last night, so I can't get exact weight today. His last weigh in was 1849. Then he didn't eat for about a month, now has eaten 3 weeks in a row. Anywhoo, for size comparison here he is next to a dinner size Dixie plate. He is 5 years old, so full grown. Oh, and don't have exact measurement of length, but between 4 1/2- 5'.

This is my 2010 male super pastel. He is right about 900-1000 grams.

This is a proven breeder female I just piked up. She is about 1900 grams and she laid this season so this isn't her normal weight.

These are perfect! Exactly what I was hoping you guys would post This forum never ceases to amaze me with how active you guys are, and amazingly helpful. These are great.
And such gorgeous snakes too. Bonus
That dixie plate is SUCH a perfect example. It gives a really strong visual for what they look like when they're not all uncoiled. My corn snake never does that, so she always appears to be her 5ft self. But a ball python, with it's thicker body, doesn't look quite so intimidating.
Thank you, everyone
