    That is not the tiolet......

I am running into a recurring issue with my female BP, she keeps using her water bowl as a toilet. Every time I find it like that I take it out of her tub, rinse and wash it, and then disinfect it with F10. I wonder though what nasties can she get from drinking from it before I get a chance to clean it out, also would it just be a better idea to remove a water bowl from her tub entirely to prevent her from using it like that? And while I am thinking about it, would she be stupid enough to drink from her water bowl after pooing in it?

She is the only one that does this by the way..

She has great humidity in her tub and her mice are served wet so she gets more moisture.

No...the NEED to have water available to them at all times. They don't get enough moisture from a single rodent eaten once a week or so.

Just use a smaller water bowl...give her a lot smaller target. Just make sure it's still hard to tip over. A small, heavy crock works well.

I have the same issue, its not constant, but I can always expect that someone left a surprise in their water bowl (reguardless of bowl size). I do not see it as much of an issue. I check the tubs every evening, if I see it, I clean it, give them freshwater and move on.

It happens. If its that much of a pain get some disposable deli cups so you can just throw em away.

I keep thinking about doing that, I know that Brian at BHB uses cut sections of PVC pipe to hold the cups. I might have to try that....

I second the need to have water available at all times in their established enclosure (aka anything that isn't for temporary transport.)

Keep in mind that animals have less of an issue with their poop, so I don't think the snake drinking from a water source that they pooped in will be much of an issue.

I bought styrofoam bowls and stick them in their regular bowls.

    When they're dirty, they're gone.

[and if my snakes' water gets "dirty", even if it's just a piece of aspen or paper, they won't drink it at all]
