Help the ignorant - het pied markers?

I am trying to understand what people are looking at when they talk about their BP having het pied markers. I have seen the belly shots that people post and see the replies " great markers, etc". But I don't know what they are seeing. Could someone explain what they are actually looking for. Some of the subtle differences in some of the morphs and terms like "markers" are difficult for a neebie like me to see.

    thanks

This would qualify has a GREAT markers.

Now all markers are not the same I have a proven breeder female with very weak to non existent makers.

Not sure why you are asking but here is my recommendation do not buy a het based on marker alone as they are not 100% reliable.

As for holding back hatchlings that are Poss Het I always go by markers.

Is it the same for other morphs too or just normals? I have a pastel ph pied but I honestly had no idea what I was looking for and her belly looks like that too. I dont know if thats typical of pastels to have a white belly with the black tracks down the side.

It is not the same for all the morphs that are het pied, Pinstripe Het Pieds for example do not have those "train track" however Pastels, Enchis and some others do.

All of my pastel het pieds have the marker. There are other het pied that show in other morphs. Cinny het pieds, pewter het pieds, and hopefully we can prove the super pewter het pied this season...if not, we definitely have something else going on.

Re: Help the ignorant - het pied markers?

Thanks for all the information. I really hope to have a pied in my collection at some time but are not currently looking at anything listed as "het". I have enjoyed reading the posts from others on here about their het pieds and looking at the pictures, I just was not sure at what I was looking at. One thing that I have learned from this forum is to know who you are buying from. When the time comes (in other words, when the budget allows) that I am able to purchase a pied or a pair of het pieds, I will go to a well known breeder.

    thanks again
