Anyone own a Brazilian Rainbow Boa??

I think that is the next snake that I want. They look amazing (in photo's at least). I just can't find any BABIES for sale anywhere; only adults. Seem like docile reptiles from watching YouTube videos on them which is a plus for me.

Update on my Ball Python. "Sam" ate a pinky on his/her first feeding. I was worried that he/she may be stressed, but she went at it like a champ. I think the baby pinky might not be enough for him/her. Should I feed her both pinkies? They come in pack of two. And where do you guys buy your live baby rodents/hoppers from? Also, "Sam" seems to like being held. I hold her/him everyday, and she'll just chill there all mellow like, or end up sliding up and down my arm. Funny thing is that Sam will only hang out with me. He/She won't go to anyone else, or even want to try and go on anyone other than my hand. Guess he/she likes my scent.

Re: Anyone own a Brazilian Rainbow Boa??

First, the ball python: Definitely feed it both pinkies, and then next time get at least a hopper mouse, if not a small adult mouse to feed it. They are definitely capable of much larger meals, and need something more substantial than a pinky to eat. As a size reference, I start my hatchlings on large fuzzies/almost hoppers, and then after that meal switch to hoppers - within 2 or 3 feedings, they're big enough for mice.

Second, check our website. We have baby brazilians in stock right now.

Most will tell you a few guide lines about handling a snake.

    1. Don't handle it before feeding.
    2. Don't handle it for 2-3 days after feeding.
    3. Stress or agitation can make your snake regurgitate its meal causing it to loose its meal but more important its stomach fluids. It then needs time to build them back up. 7-10 days later feed it a meal half the size it usually eats. Just in case info.

    4. My personal one. I wait to handle my snake until they become active again, usually 3-4 days after eating.

    Definitely..

I fed mine on Wednesday, and didn't bother him/her again until Saturday morning when I went to add fresh water in his/her water bowl. I did my homework on ball pythons before I jumped in. The only thing that I'm still not 100% sure about is when he/she will shed, and what are the signs to look for, as well as the size of the food I can feed him/her -- but LLL helped out with that up top.

Unless your ball is an extremely undersized hatchling, mouse pinkies are not a substantial enough meal. Rat pinkies aren't even big enough. Most people start their normal sized hatchlings right out of the eggs on mouse hoppers or rat fuzzies. They move up very quickly from there. Get yourself a digital scale and feed your snake 10-15% of its body weight every 5-7 days. Saves a lot of hassle.

Im glad you did your homework. I just saw this comment and thought maybe you didn't know.

Check out the care sheet from this forum, it discusses both of your questions.

I have never used this site but they have a nice picture showing the sizes of feeder mice and rats. Go to the link and scroll down.

Got him a frozen fuzzy from the pet store. He attacked it as soon as I waved it around in front of his/her face.

Probably because that was hardly a snack you feed before. Lol!

You should feed hoppers, you BP can handle it. After a feeding you should be able to see a bulge in your snake. I doubt you will be able to point the fuzzy out when its in your BP thick middle.

I feed my GTP hoppers and she is thinner but longer than your BP.
