New member with some questions
Hi everyone, some of my friends keep pythons, and I have always loved them so I have swatted up on them for years and I thought I knew a lot about them, but. I have just bought a pair today and they are youngsters, so I'm having to wait for 3 strikes and 3 sheds till I can take them home, which I'm fine with. This also gives me at least 3-4 weeks to get a good set up ready for them. Now like I said I thought I had a lot of knowledge, but now the snakes are mine I'm second guessing myself, so my question is.
Is it ok to keep two hatchings in a 2ft viv aslong as I have hides in all hot and cool areas. I know they don't like feeling exposed but they also don't have the luxury of heated vivs in the wild.
I'm sorry to ask a question that may have been asked a thousand times before, but I also thought it would be a good excuse to introduce myself.
Thanks for looking and I look forward to any feedback.
Darren.

Quick answer is no. You don't want to house 2 snakes together period, unless they are breeding. These are solitary animals it causes them stress to have to compete for spaces and places with another animal, it can even lead to cannibalism.

Re: New member with some questions
It is not a good idea to keep 2 snakes in the same enclosure. There are several reasons for this first being it stresses both animals. Second if one snake become ill the second is exposed as well. Also it makes it a lot more dificult to keep track of which snake produced stool or regurged ETC. I know you see them in multiples in a pet store (I wont name names) but housing snakes together is a bad idea. They are not social animals and what looks like snakes cuddeling is actually snakes fighting over the good heat source or hide spot in the enclosure. As far as size 2ft is a little large for a hatchling but with plenty of material to hide in it can be made to work

Ahh, but they do have the right temperature range in the wild which is what your tank is recreating.

Please check out the caresheet on here. I am terrible at linking or I would put it here for you. But that has tons of information for you. Do not house two bps together. You may want to look into tubs vs. tanks. Tubs are cheaper, easier to clean, and perfect for a bps needs. Make sure you get a good thermostat too. Congrats on your new babies!

All advice taken on board. I have decided now to keep them separate, which brings more questions.
If I buy two 6l locking boxes from Tesco or wherever, could I use a single heat mat to heat both boxes sat side by side.
The mat and stat I am looking at on amazon is the, lucky reptile thermo control 2 and the euro rep habistat 7w 6x11. Does anyone rate these products or could you recommend anything better.
I don't mind spending a little but as I'm going to have to buy double everything now the cheaper better.
Thanks again.

You could look at reptile basics website, for supplies.. Flex watt works well, you can buy a properly sized piece. You will have to read up on that. We have, and I recommend a Herpastat thermometer, from Spyder Robotics. There are other less expensive brands that will work. I can't say about the ones you are asking about, because I have not heard of them.

For a thermostat, I'd recommend a herpstat. I just got mine and boy do I love it
