Thermometers/Humidity Gauges

Hello, I'm getting my first BP shortly and bought a lone ZooMed thermometer and also a ZooMed thermometer/humidity gauge. However, they read 5 degrees different when right next to each other. Are the ZooMed thermometer's not to be trusted? Does anyone know of any really good thermometers and/or humidity gauges that are wireless? (I don't want to cut holes in my lid for the wires)

I am not fond of the Zoo Med thermometers I use this accurite model and double check its readings with a temp gun you can get a nice thermal temp gun from Reptile Basics and Rich is a great guy with excellent customer service and products

Thanks for the advice! I bought a indoor/outdoor thermometer from walmat that also measures humidity. It's from Acu-rite and has a temp probe that I can put on the warm side, and then just put the device itself on the opposite side, so I can get a hot and cold side temp plus a humidity measurement.

From what I've seen, Acu-rite devices are pretty trusted. I feel a lot more safe and confident with this thermometer then the ZooMed ones. Thanks again!

Check it agains a known accurate one. I have not found them to be accurate or reliable. (I calibrate lab thermostat systems) Personally I believe unless you have a known accurate thermometer. I'd buy a few 3 at least and 5 units would be better and check them against each other usually you will find some that are reading the same. They are often the correct ones.

Does anyone have the new specs on accuracy for the new versions of the basic accurite are they better than the original +/- 15% RH and 2ºC +/- ??

The specs are the same I believe, but what I have found is that they are far more likely to actually be within specs than the older ones. That said I am phasing them out of my setups because I have found what I believe to be better (though costs far more)

I'm switching to industrial dial type thermometers. These have probes and cost $49 each. This will be a slow transition, but the new ones have lifetime warranties so in the end I'm pretty sure that I will save money.

You might look a a good one and a bunch of cheap ones. You know how sensitive the probes are to damage. A halfway decent lab grade one will run what 300-500$ the guy I have been buying my thermometers from sell them to me for 1$ each I buy 20 at a time and get 14 or so correct ones the rest read the same (or so) and are basically correct. (about 1ºF error) When they get damaged I pull it into a to be checked box. It likely be cheaper and easier in the long run.

The specs place it as twice the accuracy of the acurites as well. 1ºC (2ºF)
