    new herpstat

Goodbye hydrofarm hello herpstat 2. I just got my herpstat all set up and just wanted to share my excitement, I'm very happy with it and it seems like a big step up from the hydro which has been driving me nutz. Also my fire male almost gave me my first bite today but my streak still goes on. ( for now)

The best use of a hydrofarm IMO is as a back up to a primary. They have such poor accuracy! You will never look back! congrats!

    Re: new herpstat

I got ours last week and plan to set it up this weekend. Was the setup fairly easy? I'm using a 2 heat source approach. 1 with the UTH and one with a light (same tank)

Aaron (Serp Merch) has me all set on everything as far as placement and which mode to use.

    Was the programming relatively easy?

    Congrats on the unit.

Also, if you do use use a backup, I'd like to hear how to do it.

    Ciao,

    Gio

Fail safes are very easy. My method is to measure the temp of the heat source when the enclosure is correct. This tells me the differential between pad and inside. I then guess what the the temp would be when the enclosure is warmer. I have unstable room temps so I allowed a bit of head way so the heater can actually heat to 90º even when the room is quite cool. So I set the fail safe to 100º which will allow the enclosure to max at 97º on a warm day and 92º on a cold day. This protects if the probe gets pulled free (herpstats 2+ do that if you enable that setting ) but also if the controller fails or triac fails (voltage issue for example can cause a triac to stay open and not shut down)
