Need help with preservation of a skin

Hey guys, i need help with the preservation of a shed Boa snake skin, thing is im using it in craft so i cant put it in a jar, im planning on making a sort of snakeskin armband but no natural snake makes the skin i need (diamond shapes but made up of red, blue, white, and black in a specific pattern), so i figured the easiest way was to get a shed skin, use some sort of paint/nail polish on the inside, and then glue it to some fabric, but then i realised the actual skin would probably perish at some point, so how would be the best way to preserve it? or make it look like a real skin?

thanks for any help you can give me

I don't know if this would work, maybe putting a thin layer of plastic over it to protect it from things rubbing up agenst it, and to protect it from the air drying it out. Hope that helps, or sparks an idea to help, I like the idea! Goodluck!
