Whats your price range and how far away do you generally take temps from?
Like if you have hots then youll want a gun that can give you accurate temps from farther away, but if you have just bps like me then i highly recommend this one from RBI. Its well built and has always been accurate for me. For $50 i dont think theres anything else out there better than it. I actually use it all the time to take temps of randomn crap that i wanna know lol.
I used a cheapo from harbor freight for a while, but decided It was time to get a little more precise so I bought this for $35 http://tempgun.com/products/pe2/
I had "invested" in a cheapo temp gun too. It is crap, and "consistently inaccurate" by 4 degrees. I also want to get a better one but it makes sense to order locally than overseas where I live. There are many models some are bigger and more expensive, but I still haven't shelled out the cash to buy the expensive one, because I am scared that it would just be crap just the same. LOL
To be honest they are all about the same until you hit the high end and they are better because the take multiple readings quickly and average the result. Is it worth the cost unlikely. I would look for one that takes a battery that makes sense for you, aa, aaa, 9v or the like. I would suggest a DS ratio of 1:1-8:1 I would not bother with longer remember the optimal range gets longer with the larger DS ratios. 1:1 around 4" and a 6:1 is around 24" while a 8:1 is 32". Typically I'd look for a 1:1 as most with balls don't need or want to read temps farther than 4 inches.
