Python Passion Clutch 12-1 Het Albino X Het Albino

    My first clutch of 2012

    Female (has some blackback):

Male (lots of blackback--he has passed this on in every clutch prior to this, so I am hoping for an albino blackback, or whiteback, as the case would be ):

    Breeding:

    Ovulation (2-15-2012):

    Laying (4-5-2012):

    Eggs Laid:

    7 healthy eggs from a first-time mom!

    Eggs in Incubator (Hova Bator):

Eggs moved to new incubator (homemade incubator made from a wine fridge):

I initially had issues with my homemade incubator; I had originally used heat tape in this incubator, and the first time I plugged it up, it didn't heat up. After unplugging and re-plugging, it finally started working. Once everything was fine with it, I unplugged everything until egg-laying season. Once this girl ovulated, I plugged it back in to get it ready . . . and guess what? It wouldn't heat again. No amount of plugging or unplugging would make it work, either. So, long story short, I started this clutch in my hova bator, while ditching the heat tape and going for heat cable. Once the homemade incubator was working properly, I moved the eggs to it.

They are due to hatch any time now. I've candled the eggs, an it looks like I might have one albino in there! I'm trying not to get my hopes up just in case, but I've seen patterns/dark places in all of the eggs but one. Fingers crossed for an albino girl!

*Drools* Beautiful! I hope I get one myself . . . now you're making me want one even more! Now I'll be reeeeeally disappointed if I get an albino and it isn't a blackback. haha

And thanks much! My male has been bred to 3 other females in the past, and he has produced at least one blackback in every clutch so far, which makes me think this is some sort of genetic thing. Granted, I don't get but one (maybe two) in each clutch usually, but the females weren't even close to blackbacks. Now that this girl finally made weight, I'm hoping for better luck (especially since she has a bit of it). Time will tell--these eggs are "due" Wednesday (that's Day 55 at least), so hopefully I'll find out soon!

    Babies have hatched!

Sadly, 2 eggs did not make it but 5 did .

    First Slit:

    Second Slit:

Pippers (I let all babies pip on their own--I do not cut eggs unless I suspect a problem):

Peeking In (the albino had already slit the shell, though I did make the slit a bit wider so I could see in--I suspected this one might be an albino during candling, and I was right! ):

    Hatchlings:
    66% Possible Het Female 1:

    66% Possible Het Female 2:

    66% Possible Het Female 3:

    66% Possible Het Male:

Albino Female (sooooo happy about this one--I wanted an albino girl ) aka Persephone:

    Clutch 12-1:

Not really any "blackbacks" in this clutch--the male has somewhat of a blackback, but not really. He did get some neat side patterns from his father though. Albino did not wind up a blackback, but she did have some pretty neat gold striping on her neck and tail (typical for the tail, I know, but hers is a tad longer than typical). Not sure where the gold striping came from, but glad for it nonetheless. I got what I wanted out of this clutch (an albino girl), so I certainly have no reason for complaint!

Is it just the lighting or is female #3 lighter than the others? Congrats! It stinks to have lost 2 of them but you got your female albino!

Re: Python Passion Clutch 12-1 Het Albino X Het Albino

Nah, it was just the lighting on Female #3. I have a new camera, and I'm still trying to get used to using it well when photographing the snakes. The clutch shot shows them all together in the same lighting conditions (female possible hets across top). First female has already had her first shed, still waiting on the others. And the little albino girl has turned out to be such a sweetie-pie too! Very inquisitive.
