Traveling soon, what to do?
So my girlfriend and I are taking off for California in a couple week. We'll only be gone for a week so feeding Max wont be an issue, but I was curious if there's anything else I should put into place while I'm away. I'm guessing an extra water dish would be good. We have a lady that comes to the house each day to check on the cats, but I doubt she'll do the same for our snake.

An extra water dish certainly can't hurt. Your snake should be fine for the week you'll be gone.
I do suggest you skip feeding him the week prior to your departure. That will reduce the chances of him pooping during the time you're away.

I would feel more comfortable if the lady watching your place could at least check the thermostat to make sure it's good...even if it's as simple as just making sure it's on and around the right temp...

That cat's something I can't explain...

Yes, I would too. I'm definitely going to bring it up to her. Even if she doesn't like snakes she should be able to check the thermostat and adjust it if it needs it. I'll offer up extra cash if she's willing to do it.

What subsrate are you using? Just make sure they won't soak on their pee or water if they accidentally tip over their water bowl.

Re: Traveling soon, what to do?
I too am in the same boat. We'l have our new year old female tomorrow and will be heading out on vacation later in July. I'm not sure what to do with the house. Keep the AC set so it never gets above 80 and have lights on a timer? I'll be getting and under tank heater tomorrow along with a 2nd water dish.
I've been running the current setup for the past week to get ready for the snake. I'll give a run down of what I have if anybody has any suggestions. I'm the primary care giver/supervisor but its a present for my son who is 9 and loves animals. Its here to stay starting tomorrow, good bad or ugly, we keep our pets in this family so obviously I want to have her safe and well cared for when we're gone. We do not have anybody to check on the tank so I'm not sure our best plan of attack.
