RHP gas off and silicone cure time?

    Hey guys,

I should have sealed my PVC cage last week but ended up doing it yesterday. I plugged everything in but there is no thermostat yet so the RHPs have been going full blast for the last 24 hours. The silicone still feels tacky to the touch and the inside of the cage smells chemically.

How long should I wait before I more my snakes in? And do the RHPs need a break in period? Unfortunately I threw out the tube of silicone so I'm not sure what the cure time is for this silicone. And I read somewhere that the RHPs will gas off for a time. But not much more no there other than that vague piece of info.

I would wait at least 24 hours, maybe even longer if the smell is still lingering. Be sure to leave the door to the cage open so some air can flow. I'm also not sure on exactly how long the RHPs gas off for... but you will probably notice the smell if it still is.

Alright. Thanks. I wonder if I should shut off the RHPs or not. One is significantly hotter than the other.

I think keeping them on will expedite the gassing off. So keeping them on for a bit longer might rid you of the smell quicker.

it depends on the brand of RHP, some do not off gas at all, while others take up to 48 hours. There is not need to give them a break.

I wait at least 3 days for the silicone to dry... make sure that the doors are open/removed, otherwise your cage will smell like chemicals for months. I like to put a small fan in new cages while they are drying to increase airflow.

Ok, LLLreptile sells Helix brand RHP, those do need to be off-gassed... Helix suggests running them full blast outside with a fan on them.

I would keep it on full blast for another 24 hours just to be safe.
