    Sexing very young hatchlings

    Hello,

I can pop hatchlings 300g upwards but am having problems popping young ones (under 300g), hemipenes arent visable on any of the 7 hatchlings im trying to pop, i dont think its lucky and ive got 7 females lol

Also, when i first tried to pop them, some of them when i started to pop pushed something out very similar to sperm plugs (theyre only a week old) and one had a tiny amount of blood, im not applying much pressure atall, does anyone know what this is?

If they have had their first sheds already it might just be bits of the old skin, as when they shed they do have a bit of skin that comes off their vent area but sometimes snags inside, that might be what you pushed out when trying to pop them.
I'm not sure what the blood is or what caused it but I just sexed some of my fresh hatchlings earlier this week and encountered the same thing from one of them, they seem to be fine otherwise though.

I thought that at first and squashed it between my finger nails and it squashed just like sperm plugs, definitely not shed

I'd give them a couple days and then try again. I've popped 3-4 g. corns and the smaller, the easier it should be. On the balls, I've found that rolling my thumb a little slower seems to work better.
