Any photo's of Probe placement in Tanks?

    HI-
I found the following link to tank set up

    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...p-w-pics-*DUW*

and he seems to reference photo's, but they are not showing up on my computer.

I also found the good one about setting up a tub.
but wondered if there was another one out there, pertaining to tanks
and placement of probes for accu-rite. and thermostats on UTH and another im putting on a CHE?
I dont want a tank full of wires?? (the accu-rite had a much larger cord then I expected) but I see everywhere NOT to use tape of any kind, and then it seems some people do?

    THANKS!!
    lisa

I made a thread showing how I did it with pics. Def not saying my way is the best possible way, but it shows where I placed my probes and how I did it. I hope it helps. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ake-(pic-heavy)

    Probe placement in Tanks?

    I'll try again-

maybe someone can just confirm i understand proper placement of the various probes.

1 probe from thermostat & 2nd probe from Accu-rite Thermometer, Over UTH- preferably in the middle?
Suggestions on attaching them?? ive heard to use hot glue?

3rd probe from CHE- i definitely have determined that I need this second heat source, or the tank cools too much.
Where to i put this? was going to place it about mid way up, on "hot side" of the tank?.?

    Themometer sits on cool side?

any suggestions on how NOT to have a cage of wires???

    ThANk YOU!!

THANKS - we were posting at the same time. I had seen yours, but couldn't find it again. I especially liked the top idea. Thanks again!

    sorry, one question.

You attached the thermometer probe with hot glue & the other with the insulation tape? Can I ask why? Is it not safe to use on the thermostat probe??

    THANKS!

Re: Any photo's of Probe placement in Tanks?

Your welcome thanks for taking a look. From all I have read, tape is a huge no no in the tank. You never want tape in a place where your snake could get too. There are pics somewhere on here where a snake found some tape in the enclosure and had a pretty serious injury from it. Tape on the outside of the tank is perfectly fine. Probes on the inside of the tank should be hot glued. Hope that helps.

If you use tape on the outside (I have to use tape to cover up holes on my tub to control humidity) then make sure you stick a smaller piece of tape to the larger one so the only thing the snake could possibly touch with their body would be the back of the smaller piece of tape. It's probably the only time to use tape and only like that. Don't ever use it inside the enclosure to stick down the probe or anything. If it's accessible at all, the snake will find a way to get themselves stuck to it. It's better not to use it at all and not have to worry about injuries.

When you're hot-gluing the probe down, make sure you only glue on the cord and not the probe end itself. If you glue over the heat sensing part of the thermometer, there's no telling just how accurate the readings are and if it's even going to work at all.

Is it better to have thermostat probe inside or out?

my thermometer reading seems like it went high when I covered it with substrate??

My thermometer has soo much cord, I dont know what to do with it all

I think these probes are going to make me insane!

    ha ha

The probe needs to be on the inside of the enclosure. The temps will go up a little when you add substrate but you shouldn't be using more than 1" deep of it anyways. Also your snake will likely push substrate around to lie as close to the heat source as possible especially after feeding, so that's why you don't want the probe on top of the substrate but under it. If it's on top of the pad between the heat and the glass above you have no idea what your actual hot spot temp is.

Your thermometer probe cord should have come with a twisty tie. Once you secure the probe and have the actual thermometer in place, just fold the cord back up, secure with the tie, and cover it how you wish. You might want to wrap the loose ends back about the 'body' of the tied cord just to help reduce the risk of your snake harming itself somehow. They're not the smartest box of rocks around so it's your job to make sure they don't get a chance to hurt themself. If they do, then it's off to the vet and that's stressful for everybody.

Thank you very much! I have everything set up and my temps & humidity seem great right now. Very happy for that. Last thing to hook up to a thermostat or dimmer is my CHE.
But so far so good. Thanks again!
