    Help!!!

Ok, long story short I rescued this hatchling and re-homed it to a friend of mine. She calls me saying it has a bad shed so I come over and remove the leftovers, including retained eye caps (gave her a good soak and it all came off in the soaking tub) Snake looked fine. 4 days later she calls again saying the snakes eyes are crusty and blue again. I advised her to up the temps and humidity and take the snake to the vet asap if it looks that bad... Next day she calls and says she got the crusty eyes off herself and sent me these pictures... I offered to take her back and get her to a vet once I am back in town but for now I dont know what to tell her... I think she might have removed the new eye cap

The First Photo is how she looked before I found her a new home :/ which I really regret doing now...

That poor snake looks awful I'd take her to the vet asap and would advise this girl to do that NOW (or you to take her back and have her help with the vet costs).

Personally to me it looks like actual eye damage too: like she rubbed the eye too much or too hard and damaged them.

That is horrible and looks extremely painful.
It does look like the live eye cap membrane could have been removed. I always say, don't mess with the eyes even with a bad shed and retained caps... The caps will usually always come off during the next shed anyway....

If she can't afford a vet visit, she shouldn't own an animal... They're like kids. Parents will take an ill child to a doctor....Pets are no different. That is horrible... You should tell her and maybe she'll grow up a little.

I would advise to keep the snakes' eyes moist and to prevent it from drying out since they can't blink and there's no eye cap (assuming) left. I'm not sure how, but I bet a more experienced member will chime in... (maybe some non pain relief neosporin? I know you can do this to mammal eyes...not sure about snakes)

I wouldn't put anything else on those eyes. She needs a vet ASAP. The times that I've seen the living cap removed I've seen the snakes go blind because of it. The snake obviously needs an appt. I always tell people to just let the eyes be. Good humidity and patience would have solved everything.

Omg the poor snake!! It looks skinny and dehydrated too! I would be taking that snake back and getting it to the vet ASAP. I don't think I would let her have it back either. Please keep us up to date.

    Re: Help!!!

I'm canceling plans and getting her late tonight and to the vet ASAP, and yes she is staying with me permanently after tonight. I feel awful that if I had just kept her none of this would have happened

    Re: Help!!!

    Hi,

    I'm sure I've missed something.

That snake still has a full shed stuck to it.

Apart from the eyes where it looks like she has indeed ripped the spectacle off.

I wouldn't have let it go either - simply because I love the head/ neck marking.

    The poor snake.

Your friend has most likely blinded that BP by pulling off the living caps, so you'll need to be prepared to deal with that. Several keepers have blind BPs in their collections, so it can be done successfully.

Also, if you keep this thread alive and document everything this animal goes through with Vet visits and such, I will link to it every time someone wants to mess around with stuck eye caps...It could save some snake from a similar fate in the future.
