Ceramic heaters vs Bulbs

I'm having trouble keeping the humidity up in my cages. Wood cages with small screen tops. About 2' bye 2' by 18". I have a UTH setup in one corner with therm. for a hot spot. Without a bulb the tanks stay way too cool. But they also get rid of humidity. Warmed up tank and no light on makes the humidity stay up, turn the light on and away goes humidity. Do the ceramic heat emitters do the same thing or do they make it easier to keep the humidity up?
And can somebody explain the what the 1.0 numbers before the description of the Ball is? I assume M/F or something?

Yes they do exactly the same thing, change the way the air moves. Temps always come first, humidity is not an immediate life threatning issue heat is. Substrate, water bowl and size and location of the vents will make big changes. I would suggest using coco coir (eco earth) with a large surfaced water bowl and use side vents not top ones. Locate the water bowl over the warm end and see what happens.

Thanks for the help. I already have a relativity large water dish for the cage size so i'll try switching the bedding. I assume you mean the stuff that comes in bricks and you soak them in water to expand them. As for vents I can cover up part of the screen, it's about half the cage size but adding vents would be a little harder.

Have you considered switching over to a PVC cage or a tub set up? Both are easier to heat, and the humidity takes care of its self.

In the mean time, you can cover half you screen with a damp bath towel. It will help with the humidity.

I like to have vents lower in the walls about 1/3 from the top. Humid and warm air both rise and top vents make both worse.

So I realized I had my humidity gauge almost under the heat lamp. Not much humidity there. I moved it and the humidity went up a little. Switched bedding. That helped a ton. Covered up part of the top helped a little. Now i only mist once or twice a day and it stays around 60. As for vents I found some from Lowes that you just use a hole saw and pop them in. 2" diameter vents. Maybe two along the side sound good? This weekends project I guess.
