    This makes me sick

It seems that in China, they are selling key rings with live turtles in sealed plastic bags. This is sickening:

Just think, there are turtle farms down South churning out thousands of red-eared sliders every year, and shipping them to China.
They must know what happens over there...I'm quite sure they haven't failed to hear about it.

Lest the issue seem black and white, though, I wonder what they would be using if they didn't have a zillion cheap red-eared sliders to use?

Did you click the link? It is to SNOPES and has already been checked out. I don't think SNOPES would ruin their credibility over this.

No you misunderstood my post. Leah said "what kind of people would do something like this?" My post was to say the same kind of people would do that as the people who did the whole bonsai kitten website. In other words, scumbags...

The Bonsai Kitten website is just a joke, I'm not sure how you are comparing them.

This is actually pretty old news, I recall a thread like this on another site I frequent about a year ago followed by arguing over whether the turtles and fish in the baggies could actually live like that and for how long. As if the answer wasn't obvious

The water is advertised to being "packed with nutrients" and the little bubble of air is "super concentrated oxygen"... If it sounds like a bunch of hogwash to anyone who has a brain, good.

I'm just surprised it's still going on. That's more appalling than the idea itself... that people fussed about this a year ago and yet they're still selling these things.

I spent some time stationed in Asia during my military career. They have quite a different mindset when it come to the treatment of animals in places like China, Korea, and Japan.

I'm not saying that makes it right or trying to condone their actions in any way, just pointing out a significant cultural difference.

I find it hard to believe that a turtle can live in a plastic bubble on a key chain for up to 3 months...
