Time for cage upgrade?
My BP "Monty" has been growing like a weed, almost 5 inches (sorry, no scale) in the last 4 months. He is in a 10 gallon, and I am having a bit of a cram putting a big water bowl in(had humidity issues) and 2 appropriate hides. He is now 25 inches long. Should I make the change to his adult enclosure(a 40 breeder glass tank) 36x18? Or should I opt for a 20 long(don't currently have one.)?

I would recommend a tub over a tank, honestly. You'll have a lot easier time controlling temps and humidity. At his size he would be find in something around the 28qt range. Ball pythons prefer more intimate quarters, so a massive enclosure isn't usually advised. If you're insisting on a tank, I would hold off on the 40 gallon until he is fully grown because he very well might feel too stressed out in such a large enclosure.

Just use the 40 gallon breeder. As long as there's sufficient hiding space/coverage then he'll be fine with the extra space.

I agree with this.
A tub would be better than a tank, but if you want a cage that you can still see you BP in then I would suggest a PVC cage.

If I didn't already have the 40 breeder I would definitely go for PVC. However, I have held my temps and humidity quite well in my 10 gallon.
Just curious, how much would a PVC cage of comparable size to a 40 breeder cost?
Thanks,
Benek

Like $200 shipped. If you already have the 40gal i would just use that and save up for a pvc cage

http://www.animalplastics.com/ has them on sale for $175 but that doesn't include heating/lighting/shipping/locks/etc...
If you have the 40gallon already and don't mind accepting the possibility that it MIGHT be more difficult to maintain humidity and temps (which have simple solutions in most cases if it is a problem), then again I'll say just go with what you already have.

I use the Animal Plastics T8. (48"x24"x12" LxWxH) this is the ideal size for BP's in my opinion. It costs $150 + $45 for shipping to get the base model. You can have things like viewing lights and Flexwatt Belly heat added on as well.
Here is their website:

I agree with Mike. Use the 40 gallon for now and save up for a PVC cage. Remember a BP can live for 20+ years so a cage like this is an investment that will last a long time.
