Probing Bloods Correctly
I was wondering if someone with experience could describe the best way of determining the sex of a snake via probing technique.
From what I have read for males the probe should glide in caudally, rather easily. With females, you will meet resistance and the probe should not continue to glide in.
My question is how far should the probe glide in length wise to be able to for sure say whether the blood is a male or female? Also vice versa how little would one expect with a female. Obviously it will differ depending on the size of the animal. But if someone could give me any tips that will allow me to do so in confidence based on the length of probe insertion I would appreciate it.
Reason being, I have had a couple snakes that were bought as a certain sex, in which I probed and seemed to fit the description. But recently I had two males together during a cleaning, which had no issues in the past, only to see one locked up with the other. I can only assume that a male would not lock up with another male. Also both snakes were brongs so don't freak out about any possible hybrids lol
I appreciate any input and tips in advance. Thanks a ton!

well there are some vids on you tube, the one from LLC describes it best they use a ball but i mean if u have a male and a female that you know of for sure probe them then go about doing the others and compare to the first two. but also i think that it is possible for males to try to court eachother i think it a dominance thing. i know sorta strange but im almost positive they do this. ill get back to you after i do some more research

Females usually 2-5 subcaudals. Males better than 4. Usually. Females can be tricky at the 4 scale depth but a male is usually obvious especially an adult. And two male bloods will engage in prison sex.

Re: Probing Bloods Correctly
I re-probed a few of them. The male that I am 100% on probed appox 2 inches until resistance was met. Two others that I probed matched pretty closely.
I'm assuming it is a safe bet to assume the other two are males as well. The penetration by the dominant male must have been an unfortunate event

The prison sex quote pretty much made my day.
