Getting aggressive? Why?
Xena, my 7 month old bp I've had since a hatch Recently has been a bit snappy. Day temps run 88-91 degrees, night temps around 75-78 degrees and humidity stays at a constant 50-60% unless she is shedding. there isn't any mite issues, thankfully. And I feed her about 15% of her body weight once a week and she hasn't ever missed a meal. Most of the snappy period is night. I did recently buy a red inferred head lamp for night time, would that be partially the reason since I've heard they can't see red very well, and have limited eye sight as it is. Any ideas would be great, forgot
To mention I take her out everyday/every other day for about a half hour each session. she's never tried to strike at any one, or anything
Out of her cage. Thanks.

Re: Getting aggressive? Why?
Your cool side temps are a little chilly. You say you are feeding 15% of her body weight. What exactly type of prey are you feeding, mice or rats? How much does the snake weigh exactly?

weighs around 435 grams. She gets, not quite a small ft mouse but slightly larger then a "small mouse" each week.

Guess her night temps tonight are around 83* depends on how warm the room is slightly.

Re: Getting aggressive? Why?
You could try feeding her every five days, she may still be hungry. I feed my young snakes that are under 500 grams every five days.

Yeah, I just fed her last on Tuesday, and befor that was on Wednesday. Dropped down to 6 days. Oh well, no big issue for now as long as she keeps it inside the cage.

I would honestly ignore it. They all can get a little "puffy" every once in awhile and if she finds that it keeps you from handling her she'll keep doing it because no matter what we think they really don't like being held they just learn to tolerate it.

Re: Getting aggressive? Why?
Part of it may be your temps. They shouldn't drop at night. You want a hot side at 88-90 that always stays that warm. And your ambient temp should be 80. And should not drop either. She also could be hungry. My 400 gram snakes are eating rats. Not pups, but the next size up. Seems some people call them crawlers, some call them hoppers. Anyhow, a big baby rat, that has just opened its eyes. They are bigger than mice, and mine eat once avweek. Also if she is going into shed she could be getting grumpy and not want to be held. I don't think its from your lamp though.
