Re: She could be a He!

Interesting stuff...just for kicks I just gave this a try on 2 of my snakes of the same approximate size(700ish grams), and swear there is a noticeable difference. I wouldn't rely on this myself without trying it on several more snakes over the next few years and having it match how they sex when I pop them, but definitely interesting nonetheless. Totally makes sense though, even if it's not at all visually detectable, that males would have a hemipenal bulge.

I would like to point out that everything that you have put forward about this "palpation" sexing method has been about Boas. I can't find anything anywhere that says that this works with BP's. I have found references to Boas, but once again no BP's.

I just tried dong it exactly the way the video said and I couldn't tell the difference between my confirmed males and females. Granted I have never done this before so I could just be doing this wrong.

If anyone can put forward any information that this works with Ball Pythons I would love to see it. It certainly seems like it would be less intrusive for the snakes if it works.

On my original post yeah, I said I know people that sex their boas using this method.

It's not a very common way of people sexing BPs, and I've never actually tried it myself on any of my BPs (perhaps I should?) but I'm just saying it's not a completely off the wall method of sexing. Have you actually seen what a completely everted hemipene looks like? THEY ARE NOT SMALL lol

I can understand the concept, and as I said if anyone has proof that it works I would love to see it as I like how un-invasive it is.

On a side note, all 3 of your posts are about Boas... not saying that it can't work with BP's just pointing that out. I really would like this to work, I really do. I just want to see some proof that it works with BP's as well. I do appreciate the insight you have provided already

I have heard this before but only in babies where the skin is thin enough to feel whats underneath. Still I wouldn't rely on it, just learn how to probe its rather easy.

Re: She could be a He!

I have ordered a probing kit from Reptile Basics and it will be here in 2-4 days. I want to be damn sure of the sex before I decide what to do. I've had some people tell me to just sell the male and get an adult female, keep the pastel. But he/she is my first snake and you only get your first snake once. Personally I would much rather just go buy an adult female and make room than to get rid of one that I love.

I can't pop I have tried. When I have a chance to try it with someone in person who can walk me through it and show me how to do it I will be able to. But my probing kit will be here on Saturday so i'll just probe him/her.
