    Behavior question...

So recently my BP has been seeming more active (at night) she is about 6 months and 300 grams, and I feed her a small/medium rat every 7 days.

What has me concerned is she seems to be looking to escape, she trys climbing the side, and just seems uneasy at night, during the day she sleeps fine and doesnt seem to have any issues (she is currently in a 10 gal which i feel terrible about, 41 qt rack is being finished this weekend) so i know the enclosure is on the small side (she grew faster then expected ) heat is 88 hot 78 cool and has two identical hides and water. She is my first snake so im still learning as I go with her, does anything sound alarming to anyone? im think im going to switch her to a 5 day schedule, anything else I should be concerned about or change??

    thanks!

Not at all odd for balls to be out and exploring at night, being nocturnal animals, that's the time they should be out. They don't "try" to escape, but given the opportunity, they will.

I gotcha, thanks! I mean I know they are nocturnal and i can hear her moving as I sleep its pretty funny. maybe shes just getting more comfortable and explorative and im over reacting.

Sounds like she's just doing some normal BP nite time roaming. I don't think it's anything to be alarmed about. She'll most likely do the same thing when you move her to the tub.

Glad you posted this I was just sitting here with the same concern. Does yours climb the sides and sometimes fall fairly hard? I'm afraid he's going to het hurt.

Are u feeding at 15% body weight? If ur snake is more active, could mean they are hunting for food. Just a thought other than that, its completely normal behavior.

Good point. Well 15% is about 45grams since shes about 295grams. and I feed her a small rat which is about give or take 50 grams so im about that yea, ill guess ill try switching her to a 5 day instead of 7 day feeding schedule see if that calms her down. maybe shes just a little pig ;]

Yeah when mine was young I did every 5 days.. it all depends on the snakes genetics and how hungry it is. They slow down as they get older.. my adult male eats every 2 weeks. Good luck to ya!
