I imagine burlap would get pretty nasty, pretty quick. Gravel and sand can get ingested.

Burlap is cloth, which if the snake happens to hook teeth into it, can be injested(because pythons have trouble turning loose of things like cloth). If a snake swallows a big piece of burlap, you're looking at surgery to remove it. I would never reccomend any cloth in with a python.

With the humidity needs, I'm not sure how you'd use gravel/sand without ending up with scummy mold starting fairly quickly. Also, again, you'd run into serious issues when the snake injested any of it.

Just my opinions, of course, but I would not use sand, gravel or cloth in a snake enclosure.

I'd second that, I think there are so many suitable substrates out there that there is little point in exploring other options.

I would say no to both. If it has to do with money, just use newspaper. It works perfectly for them and is free.

Yeah, no need to reinvent the wheel here. There are a ton a PROVEN substrates. Pick one.

Burlap won't absorb liquid waste much just let it pool everywhere possibly leading to scale rot.

Pea gravel and sand have the same problem and also scuff the scales of the snake making it look all beat up and such. The urine just pools underneath it and stinks too.
