    set up tips needed!

Ok, got my tub, herpstat, thermometer and UTH.

    my questions:

    1) do have to solder holes in the tub or can I drill them?

    2) do I set the herpstat to proportional mode or Non proportional?

    3) have mirror tape or shiny tape (whatever you wanna call it) ,do I use this to keep down the herpstat probe and UTH down as well?

    1) You can do either, I've done both.
    2) Herpstat? Proportional...that's what you paid for!
    3) Aluminum tape can be used to secure the probe directly to the UTH

    1. Drill may crack the tub, so I prefer to solder the holes.

    2. Proportional

    3. Yes. I use clear packing tape to secure the probe, but the aluminum tape will work as well.

You should not use Aluminum tape to secure the herpstats probe, it says that right in the manual... at least it does in the Herpstat 4's manual. I use hot glue, and that seems to work really well.

The problem with aluminum tape is that it can act like a heat sink and make your probes reading inaccurate. in most cases it doesn't cause issues, but it can.

I've drilled almost all of my tubs and as long as you're not man-handling it then it shouldn't crack.
